Keeping in touch with friends. It’s nothing too hard to do, right? You just hit them up every once in a while and they do the same…right?

Wrong.

Reality sets in, and then you realize that it’s all easier said than done. You make promises to each other saying that you’d never drift apart, and that you’d make time to see each other. If you think about it, have you? When you look back, could you say that you’re satisfied with the time you’ve spent together? If any time at all.

You begin to wonder just how much they were willing to maintain whatever it was that you had. But then you figure out how little they did when you realize that you, yourself weren’t doing anymore than they were. So it’s about equal, both of your efforts. Who do you have to blame? No one, but yourself. Because really, you don’t have any more right to blame anyone else unless you’ve clearly done more.

Unless you decided to make one more phone call or send one more text, don’t go around pointing fingers at who didn’t try to keep in touch. Instead, use that same amount of energy to make that one phone call, or to send that one last text. Who knows, maybe it’ll work. And if not, then at least no one could say that you didn’t try.
